Early Years Education Programme in Central Albania

House of Opportunity works to prevent modern slavery, combating the exploitation of at-risk young people and communities in Southeast Europe. Hundreds of thousands of Roma children live in extreme poverty throughout the region. The majority live in communities where prostitution and criminal exploitation are rife. Roma families struggle for access to crucial pre-school places for their children, who then fail in the school system and are condemned to a life of poverty and exclusion; their communities becoming like traps.

House of Opportunity’s Early Years Education Programme consists of special kindergartens tailored to individual communities. By working with the whole family, we aim to inspire them about learning, and open a vital and supported pathway into education for marginalised children.

The Lewin Trust’s grant is enabling us to open a new Early Years Centre for Roma children in central Albania. The grant is also helping the transfer of materials and knowledge from our partners in Moldova to our delivery partners in Albania.
