Emergency Foster Care Programme
Tushinde Children’s Trust works in Nairobi’s informal settlements to protect children, support families, and strengthen communities. Through a network of trained social workers and community volunteers, the organisation delivers holistic care that keeps children safe, families together, and communities resilient. A cornerstone of this work is the Emergency Foster Care Programme, which offers safe, nurturing short-term homes for children facing urgent protection concerns such as abuse, abandonment, or illness. Foster parents are carefully trained and supported to meet children’s physical, emotional, and psychological needs, while close collaboration with the Department of Children’s Services ensures swift placement and effective family tracing.

Alongside foster care, Tushinde’s Family Support Programme equips caregivers with parenting skills, trauma-informed counselling, and income-generating opportunities to create safe and stable homes. Since its launch this year, the Emergency Foster Care Programme has placed 31 children in safe homes, facilitated numerous family reunifications, and delivered life-changing interventions. These efforts highlight the transformative impact of family-based care in breaking cycles of neglect and building stronger futures for vulnerable children.
