It’s Your Life is a small charity based in Bethnal Green, London, the parliamentary constituency with the highest rate of child poverty. We provide holistic support to give everyone in our community the best opportunity to succeed in life: having delivered our programmes for the last 18 years in Liverpool, Knowsley, Newham and Tower Hamlets, we understand that the causes and effects of poverty in a community are complex and interdependent.
The It’s Your Child’s Life 2gether programme is based on the belief that every child has the right to the best start in life and that every parent should be supported in enabling their children not just to survive but to thrive. This is not a ‘taught’ course where external tutors turn up on a weekly basis and then leave until the next week. It is a course that builds relationships with parents and carers and offers holistic support to the whole family. The sessions give parents a place to meet, chat and share experiences. They are warm, friendly and stress free and our long standing, high trust relationships with parents, schools and communities are built upon our unswerving focus: that we are doing what our families are telling us they need.
We know only too well that poverty in the home often leads to children ‘failing’ early in education because much of a child’s success at school relies on the vital support and stimulation provided by the parents. Our holistic support will ensure that the child’s early years are full of learning, laughter and opportunities, putting them on a positive path throughout their school journey and, in doing so, breaking the cycle of deprivation that often exists in communities of multiple deprivation.
