Downright Special is a charity supporting children and young people with Down syndrome in Hull and East Yorkshire. We make a profound difference in the lives of families, children, and professionals by providing unwavering support, guidance, and resources tailored to the unique needs of children with Down Syndrome. For families, we are a lifeline—offering emotional support, practical advice, and a welcoming community where parents can share experiences and celebrate their children’s achievements.

For children, Downright Special creates a nurturing environment where they can grow, learn, and reach their full potential. Through our tailored educational programs and social events, children develop essential skills, build confidence, and form meaningful friendships. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we work tirelessly to make that a reality.

With the support of the Lewin Trust, we are able to fund our work with children aged 0-8 and in particular our weekly early development groups for young children where the children work on their speech, language and communications skills, babies take part in sensory activities and parents learn to use sign language. These groups are at the heart of our mission to build a brighter future for children with Down syndrome.
